Hi
there!
So as I
said through Instagram stories, today I’m bringing you two posts!
And the first one is about traveling, one of my favorite things, as
you already know.
When
going to an airport, it can sometimes get hectic and overwhelming and
it’s always good to have some tricks under the sleeve to make the
experience as smooth as possible.
I’m
still a young traveler but I still have learned some tips during this
past three years living in Germany, specially, that I would like to
share with you!
Get
there always at least one hour and a half before
It’s
always better to be bored than be running around the airport like
crazy because you are about to miss your flight, believe me. One
time, when I was flying from Barcelona to Frankfurt, I decided to
take the earliest flight but I still wanted to sleep and have some
extra time with my family. So we get to the airport around 5:30 in
the morning and my flight was at 6:30, no problem, one hour to go. I
take a coffee, I pass the control and when I don’t realize I see on
the screen «LAST CALL». Oh my God I’ve never run so fast in my
life and the best of all is that I was with my carry-on luggage, a
backpack and a thick coat with me that made me weigh at least 15 kg
more. That was the best cardio session of my life, for real.
Anyway,
this was a lifetime lesson: always take your time and get yourself
ready to wait for things and not let things waiting for you. And this
applies to a lot more things in life.
Get
your check-in online done every possible time
Because
my usual trip is to Barcelona, I can always pack light and bring with
me my carry-on luggage. This is great for when you want to do your
check-in online and you’re even more calmed when you’re in the
airport because you don’t need to visit the assistants of the
company you’re flying with to get your ticket. If the company
you’re flying with (I’m always flying with Lufthansa when I go to
Barcelona) has an app for your phone, even better, because you can
save your ticket in your wallet app and have it with you offline at
any time and the control will get even faster.
When
doing the check-in, try to get front row seats
You
know when they say that a ballet is always better seen up close?
Well, flights too! If on your check-in you try to get a front row
seat everything is going to be much easier to get in and out. Just
picture it: you get maybe the first row of Economy Class (because we
want our cheap tickets ya’ll) which might be the 5th or 6th line in
the plane. Once you get in, probably the compartments above you might
be free because when people is placed by the check-in counters, they
usually get mid way rows or even at the back, so you get space for
your luggage, and you don’t need to interrupt twenty rows to pass
through and get to sit down.
When
arriving your destination, even better! You’ll get out the fastest
and you’ll be able to get anywhere you want/need the fastest!
(specially when you can’t wait to get a big hug from your family)
When
on take off, and if traveling alone, get music plugged in to avoid
blocking your ears
Well,
at least this works for me! Every time a plane takes off, usually my
eras get really blocked but if I have my earphones plugged in with
music, it doesn’t happen nearly as much! Maybe this just happens to
me but I know it can get really uncomfortable and if you don’t have
anyone to share the flight with, just get yourself a nice playlist
going on and put a soundtrack to your trip!
Use
your time on the plane to finish up stuff
As a
dancer, one of the things that are always in my to do list is sewing
pointe shoes. Best time to do it? Flights!
I mean,
you’re sitting down for at least an hour and if I take about 25
minutes to get them ready when concentrated... that’s at least two
pairs done! Of course I wouldn’t be able to do the Stanley knife
part but certainly I could still sew the base, ribbons and elastics
which is already half of the job done!
Also,
you can get into finishing that one book you always put apart, or get
your writing going or even get your expenses and agenda organized!
Just really use the time on a short flight because later you’ll
have more free time to enjoy your destination!
Get
snacks with you
In
short flights you’ll always have probably the worst food on earth
and that’s airplane sandwiches. Really, I’ve seen shoe soles more
appetizing than some cheese sandwiches from Lufthansa. You can always
ask if they have a piece of fruit or even a fresh croissant (yes,
this worked for me a couple times) but I’ve learned that’s just
better when you bring something with you because then you’re sure
that you’ll avoid the food poisoning the next day. Food is permited
when flying so go for it and just ask for a couple beverages instead
of one. Oh, don’t ask for the coffee... if you don’t want to
taste the most flavorless dirty water on earth.
Use
your coat as a blanket if you want to keep it cozy
This
works marvelous when on a short flight. If you have a very early
flight and Morpheus is coming to see you, just get your coat as your
cozy blanket and if you’re wearing a big scarf (when it’s winter)
use it as your pillow. Of course, for this method it’s great to
take the window seat because then you have somewhere to lean your
scarf-pillow and your head on. If not I would highly recommend to
invest in a plane pillow. It really saves you from sore necks and
back pain and you’ll be able to have a power nap to get your day
going!
And
these are some of my basic tips for flying! Do you have any secret
tip? Share it down below!
I hope
you enjoyed this post and stayed tuned for the second post!
Love,
Muriel
