Hello
there!
How
have you been doing? I hope you’re having good weather and happy
days as I’m enjoying this past few days.
Today
I’m coming with a bit of an exciting post and it’s about me
coming back to the Barcelona conservatoire to take class.
The Conservatoire entrance
When I
was still in Germany before the holidays I was a bit worried about
where could I get my training as the exams and a performance are up
just after the holidays and I just couldn’t allow myself to have a
full two weeks completely off. Of course, I’m coming here to relax,
to spend quality time with my family and enjoy my city but a part of
that happiness comes by dancing.
So I
decided that maybe I could use the studios of my conservatoire to
train on my own but while asking they told me that I could join their
classes without a problem and that I could use a free studio
afterwards if I wanted to rehearse any variation or anything else.
What a fantastic offer!
So
today I came back there and it was pretty good! I had a class with
one of my old teachers that taught me during my third and fourth year
in there. She was very nice and it was nice for me to have a
different class and just a style that I forgot for a while as she
trains Cuban style.
My teacher, classmates and I in fourth year
of Conservatoire after a performance.
I could
meet up again with several teachers and I found some colleagues and
being there it just felt really different yet welcoming after three
years abroad.
It made
me remember the good points of being in that conservatoire and one of
the biggest advantages was that the building is just awesome and
extremely big. There’s even a theater inside the building where we
did our yearly school performances and we had four different physios,
a doctor and a full gym to train our weaknesses.
The theatre
It’s
such a shame that in Spain we have such wonderful institutions but
for one reason or another, they don’t have enough support or they
just have different goals to achieve than other European schools.
It made
me realize all of the good things I got from the two main schools
I’ve been to: the conservatoire and the ADT from Mannheim.
The ADT in Mannheim
First
of all, I got a magnificent training in contemporary dance in
Barcelona and I had the best classical training in Mannheim which
makes me feel more confident with my dancing skills and I’ve
noticed how this security comes onto stage as well. Having the
freedom of contemporary and the exactitude from a strong classical
technique gives a perfect balance to make myself search for my own
style and try to keep my essence the main attraction to my dancing.
Also,
all the medical knowledge I’ve been able to achieve between the two
schools have brought me to know my body better and be able to avoid
and cure faster injuries and work my body more consciously.
And
final and most important point: having been able to come from two
very different ambiances have made me find a personal balance that’s
key when wanting to search for a dancer’s own personality. I mean,
the character or Spaniards and Germans are completely opposite yet
you can get things from ones and others that to me has brought me
other manners and attitudes when working.
The
more extreme rectitude from Germans and the allowance of more freedom
and own research from Spaniards have made me in a way the person I am
today and I think that during the future I’ll be able to learn more
from many other cultures and I think that’s a wonderful experience
that I’m extremely grateful to be living.
Last performance I did in my Conservatoire.
We performed Raymonda.
As you
can see, my coming back to the old times made me a bit philosophical
and I hope you enjoy this thinking kind of posts. If so, let me know
down below as sometimes I really enjoy writing about thoughts and
ideas.
I hope
you have a wonderful evening and I’ll see you tomorrow!
Love,
Muriel
