Stage Make-up Tutorial

Hello there!

How’re you doing? Today it was a short day so I decided to extend myself doing a make-up tutorial for performace because this weekend is... performance time!

We’ll do a Ballet Matineé with the school performance programme and I’m very excited to perform in this theater because we’ll have a huge stage ad I always feel the best when dancing in a big stage because I can really use the space around me and do my movements as big as I can.

Anyway, let’s jump into it! But first a small disclaimer: I’m not a professional and not even good at make-up but I’ve learned some tips during my permorming years and although I still need to learn a lot I just wanted to share how I’ll do it this weekend. Now, yes, let’s go!

First I’ll clean my face very well using micellar water. Usually a lot of dirt accumulates just from polution so before applyig heavy make-up it’s better to get the pores as clean as possible so the skin doesn’t suffer as much.

Afterwards I start by using the color corrector pallette from Kryolan. The colors in this palette are made to cancel the opossite colors in the skin. This means that to cancel redness I’ll use green and to cancel the purple from my undereyes I’ll use orange and white. This is based on the color circle and you can even erase your lips with this color correctors if you need to change your lips shape. In combination with foundation sticks from this same brand you can cancel eyebrows as well. I’ve had this product for years and although it may be expired, I use it just for performance make-up and Kryolan is a professional stage make-up brand that’s expensive but is extremely good quality, so I feel it’s very much worth it to still use it.

This is the one I have but there's other ones
with different colors that you can customize.

Stick foundations from Kryolan.

Afterwards I start with my shadows. I do eyeshadow first because I know that I’ll be messy applying them and I can cover the mess with foundation for a clean finish. I also use the Kryolan eyeshadow palette that you can customie with the colors you like. I went with a very basic and neutral palette: ivory, orange, light brown, dark brown and black.

I apply the ivory shadow first all over my eye lid with an all over shadow brush.

After wards I use a crease shadow and I mix the light brown with some dark brown and I apply it following the shape of my crease and expand in it over the outer v.

Finally I get some black (just a tiny bit because this colors are extremely pigmented) and I apply it just on the crease. I also use it o mark my brows.

Then I move into eyeliner. I’ve been using the Nyx liquid vinil eyeliner and I’ve been surprised with how precise it can be! Also it leaves a very beautiful finished look. I’ll be doing a bit more thick eyeliner to make it easier to follow when I apply my fake eyelashes.

Once that’s done the worst time comes for me: eyelashes. I’m so bad at it that I usually ask for help to friends or to a make-up artist if we have one where we might perform. Today I do it on my ow so wish me luck!
I’m using Misslyn eyelashes (that they’re not amazing but I’m still thinking if I’ll buy very good quality ones in the near future) and the classic DUO eyelash glue.

I then use a kajal pencil in white to mark a line under the eyeliner line and also mark my water line. This makes the eyes bigger and they seem more opened as well.

I’ll also remarck the white shadow on the inner corner and on the brow bone. And then I’ll apply foundation covering mistakes I might have made on the way. I apply it over my neck as well because we never want this fake tan line on stage, do we?

I seal everything with some setting powder and I get some extra powder to bake the nose and forehead (the greasiest sections of my skin).

Contour time! I use the NYX contour palette which I think has the perfect colours and I’m just obsessed with the shimmery highlighter from this palette. I must say that I over do the highlight a bit... but it’s stage time so better to go for more than less, right?

I also apply blush during this process that if you read my natural make up post you’ll see that I’m using a lot of the same products but I just use a lot more than on my day to day.

I apply highlighter in the cupid’s bone and the tip of my nose as well. I also remark the white eyeliner line with it as well as the inner corners. I said that I was a bit obsessed with it...

Finally, lipstick. For performances we usually must wear bright red but of course it may change depending on which piece are we doing. I’m currently using a creamy Kiko lipstick in the tone 933 because I finished my Sephora one, but it works really well! I use a brush to mark well the lip line and get very clean edges.

And that’s it! I usually take around twenty five to thirty minutes to apply it and I think it looks nice on stage. Maybe not so much upclose but what matters is the general impression. I hope you like it!

If you have any tips or comments, please leave them down below because I’ll be more than happy to read them and learn as well!

I wish you a beautiful Thursday evening and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Love,

Muriel
