Good
evening!
Today
I’m coming with a story time about the wonderful Sunday I just had!
I’m so happy and refilled with energy for he week and even though I
was alone, it was a perfect day to treat myself to a different lunch,
getting some inspiration and organize my thoughts.
I woke
up and while I had my tea I finished up the usual Sunday cleaning:
brooming, cleaning the dishes, making bed, cleaning my skin, etc.
I then
decided to make breakfast and I decided to go for a porridge with
cinnamon, nutmeg and a tiny bit of agave syrup as a simple base but
then I topped it with lots of berries to get all those good
antioxidants. (I forgot to take a picture but next time I make it
I’ll share a photo)
I then
took a nice shower and dressed up for the sunny day ahead. I decided
for a dress from Pull & Bear, a denim jacket from H&M, mum’s
Ray Ban’s sunglasses and my «tall» sneakers from Mustang.
I
walked to the station to get my train to Karlsruhe and I can’t
believe it but today Deutsche Bahn wasn’t late! (Those who live
in Germany will understand the struggles of delays every single day)
I forgot to say that I got a new sort of cold latte («Fit»)
at the station from Café Lattesso brand,
and it came with a small biscuit to fully enjoy the coffee. It
was such a cute surprise!
Once I
got to Karlsruhe I walked directly to the Street Food Festival venue
which was in Festplatz, right next to the Zoo and Karlstor shopping
center. The ambiance was fantastic and all the food trucks where very
flashy and looked delicious. From classic burger to bao’s,
falafel, traditional Israeli food, Jamaican and Senegalese as
african cuisine, Argentinian empanadas next to delicate pastries
filled with custard and fruit, Corean bowls and Indian currys where
mixing its scents and marshmallow, frozen yogurt and deep fried
american candy treats where people’s favourite sweet desserts.

They looked exactly the same on person if not even better.
It was too hard to decide!
I
needed to decide myself for one of them to be my lunch and Israel was
the one to call me and I tried a traditional Katchapuni. In a toasted
pitta bread there was cauliflower, chickpeas with a paprika spice
dressing and over an avocado dip topped with some traditional Israeli
feta cheese with herbs and some lettuce and arugula. It sounds
delicious and the best of all is that it was even better. Cauliflower
never tasted so good and it’s not one of my faves but this was
really delightful.
To make a comparison of the advertisement
picture and the actual thing and it's...
exactly the same. As delicious as it looks!
I then
took an iced soy latte because it was getting hotter and a cold
beverage was just the perfect thing to go for. I then walked to the
castle and when I git there I saw they were holding an exhibition
about the Etruscans and I decided to go in and check it out.
Little
indent here. Back in Spain I was almost every week going to different
exhibitions in almost every museum I could find in my city. When I
moved to Germany it was a bit of a disappointment for me to get away
from the easy escape of getting into a museum whenever I wanted to.
So I’m a nerd museum wise and I really, really, really enjoy a good
visit and I must say that I’ve seen quite a lot of different
museums so I’m a bit critic about how the exhibitions are made and
disposed. Yes, I know, not an expert but I love art anyway and I like
to have an appealing presentation that enhances the art works.
So,
back to the Etruscans exhibition. There was a lot of information
written on the walls but the pieces they showed weren’t as
impressive as what you would expect from the Etruscan culture. In my
opinion, it should be a bit more welcoming to all public and the
lighting could’ve been better to show perfectly all the details in
jewelry pieces, for example. It was very interesting the information
that hanged on the walls but I know that common public would’ve
been bored within five minutes in and it’s a big shame when ancient
cultures can be fascinating.
Karlsruhe Palace
I then
moved into the Kunsthalle to watch another exhibition but this time
of abstract painting by Sean Scully.
A small
bio: this painter was born in Dublin, Ireland, but raised in London.
He studied art in the Croydon College of Art in the University of
Newcastle upon Tyne. He got a scholarship for Harvard university in
the 70’s and since then he established himself in New York but
currently he moves around New York, Barcelona and Munich.
What
kind of art? Abstract.
Based
in? Lines and color palettes.
Which
mean? Everything to him but mostly nothing to me.
I
clarify. I do like modern art but just not any contemporary creation.
These paintings where aesthetically pleasing but for me it doesn’t
reach the category of a work of art as it doesn’t say anything,
it’s just nice to watch for a while. The paintings where only based
in lines and how those could intersect with one another when combing
different directions, tones and sequences. I understand the study but
I don’t share the feeling of considering that a work of art.
The
positive about it is that he uses very big canvas in most of his
paintings and because he uses also very well matching color skims it
was a pleasing and relaxing time to sit down and think about my own
stuff. In a way I was getting lost into those colors brushed into big
canvas and my mind could wonder easier. Maybe that’s what he wants
to transmit?
Anyway,
after that reflective afternoon time, I decided to go to a cafe to
get a small break before getting into a train back and I discovered
that there was a Cat Café in Karlruhe! It was such a pleasant
surprise because I love cats and I always wanted one but for several
reasons it was never a possibility for me. Being able to pet several
cats was already good enough for me until I can adopt one some day in
the future.
Unfortunately,
most of them were in their nap time but I could still play with one
of them for a tiny bit, but afterwards he decided to fall asleep once
more. In the mean time I asked for a pineapple, mango, kiwi and
banana smoothie which was very refreshing and just what I needed in
that moment.
After
that visit I decided to go back to the station and get a train back
to Mannheim. In this train there was a bit of delay, but just five
minutes, which is the usual, so it didn’t bother me at all,
specially after having such a lovely day out!
I got
to keep reading Fahrenheit 451 from Ray Bradbury in the trips to go
and come back and I couldn’t be enjoying it more. It’s so well
written! Well, I guess that’s why it’s considered one of the big
classics. I’ll tell you my opinion when I finish it!
So,
now, pretty late in the night, I leave you for today and I just wish
that you also had a lovely weekend and that you enjoyed this post.
It’s amazing how a nice day can give you so much energy and
positivism to start the week with strength!
Have a
good night and I’ll see you tomorrow!
Love,
Muriel
