Hello
there!
How are
you? I’ve been quite busy this past days and that’s why I haven’t
been able to write the post I promised on Tuesday or even the
Wednesday post! But don’t worry, I have a double post situation
going on today and I hope I can pay back.
The
first topic I’m treating today: My 24 hour trip to Rome.
What an
adventure! I went to Rome for an audition and I spend more time on
airports than in the actual city!
La Fontana di Trevi
So
first things first. I booked my flights around three weeks in
advance. Everything was scheduled to be just right, with enough time
to rest and enough time to connect correctly trains and planes. But
on Sunday, things started to turn out not so well. In the airport
they told us that the flight from Frankfurt to Rome was going to be
delayed for thirty minutes but then it turned out to be delayed
almost an hour and a half which meant arriving to Rome much later
than expected and I wasn’t able to get into a train as the
reception of the hotel were I was staying was closing at 10 p.m. I
know, it’s already getting messy!

I
decided to take a taxi and suddenly you can see me in a van kind of
taxi, with another three strangers and the taxi driver who’s
talking Italian to me as if I can answer him like a true roman girl.
Sadly, I could understand him perfectly but I’m pretty sure I
messed up some of my answers... At least he was really nice and even
offered me to ask him anything about restaurants or touristic events.
Sadly, my short vacation in Rome was going to be even shorter than
expected.
The day
of the audition came and it was crazy. To make long story short, we
were around 150 girls divided in four groups that needed to do a 20
minute class (yes, a full class in 20 minutes) that turned out to be
a barre of 10 minutes. It was an express audition, one of the fastest
ones I’ve ever done! And in a raged studio, very raged!
Anyway,
although it wasn’t a successful audition I think it was a whole
experience and that I could still learn from it, which is always
great no matter the result.
This picture is not tilted. This is the studio where
we did the audition and it's this inclined.
I
decided to go out fast in order to enjoy a bit the city and my first
stop was very clear: la Fontana di Trevi.
I must
clarify before I go on that I had already been in Rome before this
trip. I went on a holiday with my family when I was four. So I didn’t
really remember anything, until I got there.
It
suddenly came all back, like in the movies when the main character
gets this major flashback and it all makes sense. It happened to me
in la Fontana di Trevi and I said to myself «Muriel, if you threw
the whole wallet of your parents in here when you were four and you
were able to come back, throw another one to come back again but this
time for a holiday with a boyfriend». I know, very specific desire,
but better to be clear with what you want, am I right?
Afterwards,
it was time to move to Piazza Spagna and see the famous steps where
Audrey Hepburn was eating ice cream with her brand new haircut in
Roman Holiday. They were extremely crowded but I did remember as well
that place.
I then
decided to go and enjoy a nice meal and I chose to have some
Spaghetti with Fruti di Mari. I love too much seafood I guess! I
finished up my meal with a very tasty espresso and then I took the
subway to the main train station.
Roma
Termini is actually a pretty big train station and I was surprised to
find stands of Gucci, Dolce & Gabanna and so on in there. I guess
that I was too used to German train stations where finding a well
supplied Rossmann is already a lifetime achievement.
Roma Termini train station
I spend
some time walking around and I had another coffee, (because there’s
never too much coffee) until I catch my train to the airport. Once I
arrive to the airport... Yes, it’s delayed, again. For a full hour.
I
couldn’t believe it and because it had been quite a long day and
the day before I already had a delayed flight I got very irritable.
My parents supported me through Whatsapp messages but I must say that
I was pretty annoyed and I saw everything black. The flight that
needed to take off at 19:45 ended up taking off at 22:25 almost which
made me arrive home extremely late.
As you
can see, it was a bit of an adventure and although at the moment it
all looked very bad and depressing, I now see it as a funny episode
of audition time. Everything has a bright side and in this experience
I took with me that I spent a lovely time in Rome, with all the good
and the bad that involved the trip, and I learned how to spend time
in airports better and to get ready for delays! (Just download a TV
show or get a nice book. That is the only thing that will get you
through the anger of delays, for real).
I hope
you all liked this first post and I’ll come back later with a
second post about another trip, but this one has an extremely happy
ending.
Love,
Muriel
