Hello
there!
How’s
your summer going? Mine started on Saturday and I was craving it so
so much that I feel I need three more months of this! Today it was my
very first full beach day and I’m having such a great time... I
don’t want it to end!
Today,
I’m coming to explain you what happened last week that kept me so
busy. I was invited to perform in the harbor of Badalona in an event
organized by one of my old ballet teachers called «Nits al Port»
(Evenings at the harbor).
This
particular teacher called Marisa Yudes has a school in Badalona were
I used to dance in back in my last year before going to Germany. She
has a young company with whom I performed the full «La Sylphide»
ballet as corps and excerpts of Le Corsaire or other neo classical
pieces.
When
she knew I was coming back she told me if I was able to prepare a
variation to perform in this event and I decided to perform Carmen as
I just got it ready for the Bachelor Work and I also just wanted to
challenge myself and have some fun with it.
During
last week I was taking class with Juan Polo ( a very well known
retired Spanish dancer that currently teaches at the Conservatoire of
Madrid Mariemma) and I was rehearsing the variation in the
afternoons.
To be
honest, rehearsals were fast and a bit messy because I just had four
days to get the variation and costume ready. Hopefully, my teacher
lend me a costume she owned to dance Carmen, in the version of Roland
Petit, and I could get my character together for Friday night.
Performance
started at 22:00 but we went there at 18:00 to rehearse. The stage
was right in front of the harbor, so when you danced you had the
ships right behind you. In the night it looked amazing but during
rehearsal the heat wouldn’t let you concentrate.
This
small and occasional stages tend to not be too secure to dance in and
this stage was full of bumps and had the risk of getting really
slippery with the humidity the sea created. But a good dancer needs
to adapt to any situation so I tried to do my best during rehearsal
to see were I had the most difficulties during my variation.
For the
performance, I tried to calm down and most importantly, take care of
the sections I noticed myself most insecure in. I must say, I was
quite glad I got to perform it and of course it had a whole lot of
things to improve, but for four days of rehearsal I think that we all
did a pretty good job.
Public
seemed to enjoy the evening a lot and afterwards all dancers got
together and we went celebrate. It was quite a nice night and I got
to see again a lot of people from the past and we updated a bit on
each others lives. I think that for me, personally, it was important
to have this kind of hectic week so I had my thoughts on something
else rather than just focused on leaving my past life.
I hope
you enjoyed this short post and today I’ll post a second post as
well, so keep an eye on that!
Love,
Muriel
